1/10 oz 2014 O Canada Series - Canada Goose Gold Coin
This is the third 1/10 oz coin in the Royal Canadian Mint's O Canada 10-coin series which focuses on iconic Canadian images. This coin focuses on one of Canada's most familiar wildlife, the Canada Goose. In a country with four very distinct seasons, the Canada Goose marks the cyclical change of the seasons in a manner well known around the world. The beautiful Branta canadensis, or Canada Goose, is one of the nation's most distinctive native waterfowl. This large migratory species, ranging in size from one kilogram to eight kilograms is found across North America. It is immediately recognizable with its long black neck, and black head with white cheek markings and a light coloured chest. There are many variations between the subspecies but there is no mistaking their trumpeting honks. In late November and then again in May, Canadians, both old and young, instinctively look to the sky for the tell-tale "Flying-V" formation of the Canada Goose as a sign that the weather change here to stay. The Canada Goose has become a symbol of the connection of life to the land, a symbol that resonates deeply with Canadians. The obverse of the coin features the Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II D.G. Regina". The reverse features a scene by Canadian artist Jean-Charles Daumas that presents an image of a Canada Goose in its natural habitat, among the reeds of a lake or pond, viewed in three quarters profile from its left side, a Canada Goose sits calmly on a lake against a forest lined background. The coin also features the words "Canada 5 Dollars 2014", the artist's initials and a stylized profile of the neck and head of a Canada Goose. This beautiful proof coin is made with 9999 pure gold. The O' Canada series features iconic scenes from Canada and what better way than with this symbol of the very season change itself? This coin makes a great addition to any collection. With a worldwide mintage of only 4,000 they won't last long. Coin comes encapsulated in a maroon clamshell case with a serialized certificate of authenticity.
